Meredith Goes from Bootee to 'Bachelorette'

ABC has named recent "Bachelor" rejectee Meredith Phillips the next "Bachelorette," confirming widespread speculation that she would follow in Trista Rehn's footsteps.

The 30-year-old makeup artist, an L.A. resident and native of Portland, Ore., will begin her journey -- to use the dating-show term -- toward a love match on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Whether we see "Meredith and Some Guy's Wedding" a year from now remains to be seen.

Phillips was one of the 25 women selected for Bob Guiney -- himself a bootee from the first "Bachelorette" -- on the most recent edition of "The Bachelor." She seemed to be one of the favorites in the early episodes, in part because she went on a solo date with Bob soon after hearing of her grandmother's death. Bob played the role of comforter, and the two seemed to have a strong connection.

Phillips was one of the final four women on the show, but that was it. Guiney handed roses to Mary, Kelly Jo and his eventual choice Estella, and Phillips left regretting she didn't open up to him more.

Like Rehn, who was dumped in the finale of the first "Bachelor" before starring in "The Bachelorette," Phillips will be familiar to viewers of the two shows. The 25 guys on the show, however, probably won't know that much about her going in, as it began shooting while the last "Bachelor" was still on the air.
